How Groupride works
The short version of everything you can do here.
Signing in
There are no passwords. Enter your email on the sign-in page and open the link we send you — or type the 6-digit code from the same email, handy when you read the mail on another device. The link and the code work once and for 15 minutes. The same email creates your account if you're new, and the account is the same on groupride.net and in the app.
Your profile
On first sign-in you pick a username and, if you like, a name, city, country, a few words about you and your helmet and bike colours. The two colours make a small ball next to your name on rides, which helps people find you at the start. Your picture at the top right opens your Account: Edit profile changes all of it, the picture too, and lists the clubs you ride with; they show as badges on your profile. Only the picture itself is saved: where it was taken and its other details are left out.
Finding rides
Pick your area with the area button at the top of the Rides page: one area, a whole country or everywhere, or Use my location. Pick your sports with the pills on its photo — MTB, gravel and road, one or several — and you see only those rides. Upcoming rides are grouped into the next 7 days, the next 30 days and later, and the rides of the past 90 days stay below them. The search beside the area button finds rides by name or start point.
Joining a ride
On a ride page, mark yourself as interested if you're considering it or going if you're in. You can do the same straight from the ride cards. Once the ride has started, the button turns into went, so you can confirm you were there.
Posting a ride
On the Rides page, tap the green + in the corner and fill in a name, the type of ride (MTB, gravel or road), the area, the start point and the start time. Duration, club, price, a description, a photo and a GPX route are optional but make the ride a lot more useful to others. The photo, say from the scout ride, is cropped square: its top third shows behind the ride's name at the top of the ride page, and all of it in the share image. A short description with distance, pace and difficulty answers most questions before anyone has to ask. A new area is created when you type a name that is not there yet.
The price is free (open to all), club (club members only) or paid. A paid ride needs a link to the page that clearly tells how to pay and sign up; any other ride may carry one too, to a page with more about the ride or its organiser. That link is the only clickable one on the ride page.
Share, on a ride and on its card in the lists, offers two ways: Share link, and Share image — a square picture of the ride with its name, time, place and photo (or a photo of its sport), ready for an Instagram post or story, where links don't work.
Car sharing
This is the part Groupride was built for. On any ride page — your own too — you can offer seats in your car, for people and for bikes, or ask for a ride, with a short note: where you leave from, and a phone number if you want to give one. Tapping I'm interested on an offer takes a seat at once and tells the driver by push notification and email; the driver accepts you on the ride page. If the driver gave no contact details, you give yours, so that the two of you can reach each other. Anyone can answer a request with I'll drive and a short message, and the rider who asked is told at once; you are told as well when a driver accepts you. The note on an offer or request is public; the message you leave when you answer is shown only to the other rider. Once the ride starts, the offers and requests go and only their counts stay.
Routes and the Navigator
The Groupride Navigator is in the Groupride app (see it here): it follows a GPX route with one big arrow that bends with the trail, on a map that turns the way you ride. It works without an account: open a GPX file from its ☰ menu and start. No route at hand? Ride without a route puts the GPX away and only follows you: the map turns the way you ride, your track draws in red, with the distance and the time. + and − step how much trail ahead the map shows; a pinch zooms freely. Signed in, you save routes to your profile, open them from the same menu, and attach a route to a ride you post; riders then open it from the ride with one tap, or download it as a GPX file. Your saved routes are under Account → My routes (open): add a GPX file with a name of your own, rename, download or delete them. The map's credits show on its left edge for a few seconds and are all listed in the terms of use.
Clubs
Tag a ride with a club name and it shows as a badge on the ride. Start typing when posting a ride and you'll get suggestions from clubs already in use. A ride with a club has a card for it under the ride's details: Join puts the club on your profile and tells you of its new rides, and Notify me of this club's rides only tells you of them. Your clubs are under Account → Edit profile, and the clubs you follow under Account → Notifications.
Editing and deleting rides
You can edit your own rides from the ride page. After the ride you can also record how many riders showed up. Deleting a ride is on the ride page, at the bottom, and asks you first.
Your public profile
Every rider has a page at groupride.net/rider/username showing the picture, username, name, a few words about them, their clubs, the helmet and bike colours, city, join date and a score for each ride type — trail score (MTB), gravel score and road score — each growing with the rides of that type you join and attend. Account → Your public profile shows yours.
Notifications
Choose them under Account → Notifications (open). Follow the areas you ride in, or a whole country, and the clubs you ride with, and hear about their new group rides by email; a ride that matches several comes once. When someone takes a seat in your car, offers you a ride or accepts you in their car, you hear about it at once; that one is on from the start. In the Groupride app the same news can also come as push notifications, chosen in the app. The new rides come twice a day, at 9:00 and 21:00 your time, each with everything new since the previous one. To stop the emails, use the unsubscribe link in any of them or switch them off in the same place.
Deleting your account
Account → Delete account, at the very bottom. It happens immediately. Rides you posted stay visible without your name; your participations, car ride offers and saved routes are removed.
Is it free?
Yes. Groupride is free for everyone — riders, friend groups, clubs and non-profits — and everything works without paying anything.
But if it has been useful and you want to say thanks, a completely voluntary tip would be lovely.
See you on the trail 🤙
