How it started

Groupride started with a small, stubborn problem. Good trails are everywhere, but getting to them is hard, especially when you are new to the sport. No car, no lift, no ride. Meanwhile someone else drives to the same trailhead with three empty seats.

I'm Jani. I ride mountain bikes in Turku, Finland, and lead beginner rides for Pattila MTB and Turun Latu, part of Suomen Latu. Most of my free time goes to woods and rocks, and now and then to picking myself up from behind the handlebars.

I like the hard stuff: rocky technical terrain, rooty singletrack that keeps you thinking, and fast enduro descents. But the best part of riding is still the group. Nobody should miss it because they lack a car or don't know where the rides are.

What Groupride does

It fixes the logistics. Find rides near you, say you're coming, and offer or ask for a seat in a car heading to the same start. Less planning, more pedaling.

The second half is the Groupride Navigator: a free GPX navigator for your phone with one big arrow that bends with the trail, so you can ride with your eyes on the ground instead of the screen. Anyone can use it. Signed-in riders can save routes and attach them to rides.

Who is behind it

This is a side project. My day job is running Supermind, a retail software company, and Groupride has nothing to do with it. There are no investors and no plan to make money from riders. It exists because I wanted it to.

Where it's going

The goal is simple. You open Groupride, see a few rides this weekend, tap "going", and someone picks you up on the way. New trails, new people, less driving alone.

Get in touch

Feedback, ideas, a bug, or just hello: hello@groupride.net. I read everything.

Is it free?

Groupride is free for riders, friend groups, clubs and non-profits, and it stays that way. If a commercial operator wants to use it at scale, there may be a small fee at some point to cover running costs. For everyone else, free.

See you on the trail. 🤙
